A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.
While smaller than the speculative market, there’s still a vibrant community that depends on using bitcoin as money. Most of them aren’t on Twitter, and journalists don’t write about them.
Over 6 years ago, we started with a very simple mission: Make Bitcoin Useful. We dreamt of a world where everyone uses bitcoin everywhere. Today, I’m happy to announce that we will continue on our mission. A few months ago, we announced that we will close the company. The decision wasn’t driven by cash or runway which is the most common reason startups fold. We just weren’t sure what to do next and thought we’d return capital to our investors who could make better use of it. With the crypto market gravitating towards speculation, we didn’t want to build speculative use cases. We bought into the idea of bitcoin as sound money underpinned by “A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System.” If everyone just HODLs, however, bitcoin doesn’t need us to build use cases or continue protocol development. Bitcoin doesn’t need further development or use cases if it’s just for institutional HODLers. After we announced the closure, we received an outpouring of support. Countless people around the globe wrote to us saying that they couldn’t live without Purse because they’re unbanked. Others told us that when the Venezuelan supply chain collapsed, they survived because of Purse. While smaller than the speculative market, these messages helped us realize that there’s still a vibrant community that depends on using bitcoin as money. Most of them aren’t on Twitter, and journalists don’t write about them. We finally realized HODLers on Twitter were too wealthy to care about saving 15%+ on Amazon. We want to thank everyone who helped us come to this realization that people still rely on bitcoin as useful money. We also want to thank those who have been involved in this process including those who provided advice, volunteered ideas and offered funding. Lastly, we want to thank our loyal customers who continued to use Purse despite the limbo state of things. Sustained growth in transaction volume and liquidity post-announcement gave us confidence to continue and buy back most of our investors. Instead of closing Purse or selling the marketplace, we came up with an exciting roadmap doubling down on our commitment to serve our customers. Purse is here to stay. Thank you, Andrew LeeCEO at Purse
Hi folks, a friend and her husband are moving from Argentina and are considering their options on moving their savings (6 digits) by using Bitcoin. Apologies as I might be out of the game and have not keep up with all the latest on Bitcoin. How would you go on doing this and what tips/measures should they take on doing it?.
Using Bitcoin Tech For Other Aspects Of Governance.
Imagine this: A decentralized system of global, regional, and local governance administered by an eco-system of interrelated, intercommunicable blockchains. • • We could borrow the best aspects of all the political-economic theories, synthesize them, and codify them into an unbiased, unhackable, immutable protocol that would administer every type of policy that human beings rely on for survival within a global society (economic, budgetary, political, tax, social.. etc) through automation. • • Every blockchain would provide a check and balance on the others to keep the system stable. • • Unlike other political-economic systems (representative democracy, socialism, capitalism, communism.. etc), there would no vulnerabilities in the protocol that could be exploited, further ensuring the stability of the system and violence would be rendered obsolete. • • We could literally replace all systems of centralized power with a decentralized system that any citizen of the world could participate in and monitor from the palm of their hand, creating a perfect symbiosis between humanity and technology. We would no longer have to appeal to authority figures or institutions for the instructions on how to live our lives. In fact, we could liberate oursleves individually and, at the same time, encourage community by feeding, clothing, and housing the poor of the world. Thoughts? Is there any person or organization out there that is working on this?
My Credit Card or Debit Card won't work with Crunchyroll. Can I pay using Bitcoin or mail them a Cashier's check
It is very frustrating trying to contact Crunchyroll by email. It's as if they purposefully hide their contact. I would love to physically send them money, use Bitcoin, whatever.... When I first found the site I tried to use my credit card but I typed in the wrong zipcode (I had just recently moved) and I guess since I entered the wrong zipcode somehow all my credit cards are locked out of Crunchyroll... I have no idea what the problem is because I can't get ahold of a human to answer any questions. If someone from Crunchyroll customer service ever sees this, please tell me how I can send you money so I can stop watching ads. I wish you guys accepted gift cards but apparently those don't work either??? It is inconceivable to me how in this digital age you guys don't use bitcoin... Regardless, if someone can help me out that would be awesome.
